If you’re a word nerd like me, you notice and are fascinated by new words and by same ol’ words with brand new usage.
Case in point? Swag.
swag/noun
1.a curtain or piece of fabric fastened so as to hang in a drooping curve.
Using this word in this way, today, will make people look at you like you have two heads.
swagger/noun
1.how one presents him or herself to the world-shown by how the person handles a situation-and shown in the person’s walk
Using this word in this way, today, will make people look at you like you know what you’re talking about – you’ve got yourself some swagger.
Swagbucks/noun
1.an online site that enables users to earn points (called SB) by performing a variety of online activities, including searching, shopping, taking surveys, playing games, and discovering online content, and then to redeem those points for retail gift cards, PayPal cash, or other rewards
Using this word in this way, today, will make people look at you like you have been doing your homework.
As of March 2015, Swagbucks serves more than 12 million members and has awarded more than $100 million in retail gift card rewards to its members. (Wikipedia)
I heard about Swagbucks from Money Saving Mom, and I’ve only scratched the surface of what Swagbucks can do, but I do use it.
Here’s what I do – but I hope some of you will share your tips for how to do a whole lot more.
Create an account / download the free app on your phone. (You don’t have to use your phone – you can fully utilize Swagbucks from your desktop.)
Go to Swagbucks’ site and do your web searching from there. After a few searches, you’ll get a pop-up message that you’ve earned a few SB.
Take the daily poll. If you did nothing more than answer the SB daily poll, that’s $3.65 per year. Hey, that’s a real live penny for your thoughts!
Play games. There are lots of games to choose from in the games section of Swagbucks, but some require trading your bucks to play. There are a few free ones, however, like Swagasaurus Run. kdThis is really the only one I play, but by a few minutes of mindless dinosaur jumping, I can earn 10 SB. That’s 10 cents just for playing the game. (Tip: As far as I can tell, this game is only configured to play on your desktop – not your smartphone.)
Play the movie and news trailers. I turn the volume off and let them play while I’m in the kitchen or walking. Of course, if you want to watch them, feel free. From time to time, I do watch one to see if we want to check it out at the theater.
Redeem my SB. After I’ve earned 2,000 SB – then I redeem, print the “gift card” from a confirming email, and use my $20 at Walmart. There are other things to do with your Swagbucks, like Amazon and Starbucks cards. You can also forward your redeemed SB or give away the printed version to someone you want to bless, like teachers, the kids, a coworker who’s having a baby, etc.
So, there you have it. With just a little John-Wayne-style swagger, you can earn yourself some Swagbucks.
Use them to buy a swag if you want.
Encouraging intentional adventure and pennies for your thoughts,
PS – Have you made SB work for you? I’d love to hear!
